Project Objective

  • Enhancing the province’s economic diversification and competitiveness by supporting key industries and catalytic special projects
  • Creating jobs and transforming the economy through enterprise development
  • Improve the lives of citizens of Limpopo province and building a future-proof economy through the facilitation and implementation of relevant, needs-based skills.

Technology and design The technology of the broadband network infrastructure includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Fibre core and aggregation network with switching, routing and transmission equipment wireless technology
  • Satellites, Microwave, LTE/5G, SDWAN and Wireless connections as an extension to areas where fibre is not practical
  • Voice capability
  • Data Centre with Disaster Recovery Planning (DRP) Technology, Cloud Technology and Security solutions
  • Network Operating Control Centre (NOCC) and Call Centre
  • Virtual private networks for institutions
  • Internet and email capabilities for all users
  • Firewalls to protect the wide-area networks and each metropolitan Ethernet networks
  • Security solutions for cloud services, cybercrime combat and data
  • Wide Area Network (WAN) and local area network (LAN) access by mobile users

Factors of production/construction

The ultimate plan is to roll out fibre to all areas of the province to ensure that all communities have access to connectivity. The map below illustrates the planned core network to be rolled out.
